Glen Creek / Candler Lake Watersheds
Peachtree/Nancy Creek River Rendezvous
Saturday, November 18, 2000
Purpose: Volunteers will collect water samples. Tests
will include macrobiotic (invertebrate) sampling, pH. dissolved
oxygen (DO), conductivity, turbidity, fecal coliform, temperature
and others. For the first time, water quality samples will be
collected from 50 or more pre-selected sites in the 84,000-acre
Peachtree and Nancy Creeks Watershed during one day. Information
will be used to refine a volunteer water monitoring plan in
our communities.
Schedule
- 8:45-9:15 a.m. registration (no charge) at Lupton Hall,
Oglethorpe
University
- 9:15-9:30 a.m. welcome speeches
- 9:30-10 a.m. review of proper techniques for biological/chemical
monitoring and for documenting stream conditions with photographs
basic testing equipment will be distributed, including whirl
packs 35 mm. Film will alsobe distributed for participants
to use to photograph stream conditions (participants bring
their own camera)
- 10:00 a.m. disperse to watershed sites for testing
- 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (+/-) return to Oglethorpe with film
and with fecal coloriform samples for testing (participants
are asked to bring a small cooler with which to transport
the samples). Also socializing, refreshments, displays, demos.

Equipment Check:
- Wear sturdy, non-skid footware that you don't mind getting
wet.
- An empty 35 mm camera for documenting the stream.
- Any testing Adopt-A-Stream equipment you may have.
- Rain gear, bug spray
- A small cooler for transporting samples
